Makoto: Kamo… Blegh! I don’t even want to repeat that name. But he would soon find that out after his encounter with Ryuji Sakamoto, Ann Takamaki and Suguru Kamoshida took him to a realm beyond. *ahem* Anyway, no, this app wasn’t the cause of a virus. Makoto: You denying me my right to bitch about my own mistakes? Raiden: Sounds like you’re thinking of something different, Makoto. Gonna get some major lag on your YouTube videos, dude.

So Ren goes to protect the woman and the result is the unknown man getting injured through no fault of his. *ahem* Anyway, Ren’s journey began in the unknown location of his hometown, where one night he had encountered a drunken man sexually assaulting a woman. Raiden: Truly, these are the facts worth analyzing. Makoto: … I suppose you do strive for accuracy in your line of work.

The protagonist of that series also received a different name in the manga adaptation, and yet his canon name is decidedly not “Souji Seta.” Basically, until the fighting game spin-off proves me wrong, I think “Ren” is what we’re sticking with here. The only canon where he has the name “Akira Kurusu” is in the manga adaptation, and that doesn’t seem to impact much when you consider Persona 4. Raiden: Well, sure, but at this point there are two other sources – Persona 5: The Animation and Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight – that refer to him by that name, the former of which is the anime adaptation of the same story. Makoto: Reh-namuh… Huh? Don’t people around here usually call him something different? Let’s ask the thieving Trickster of the other realm, Ren Amamiya. Raiden: People often like to say “you can’t change hearts and minds in a day,” but, well, what if you could? Would you use it for darker purposes? To control the will of others, or to form a society under your own ideal worldview? Or perhaps you might use it to save the world.
